First Jack Venn Cup Win for Rangers
8 May 2018
A Lee Banks goal, his eight of the campaign, was enough to see the First Team lift the Jack Venn Cup for the first time ever following a 1-0 win in a tight encounter with South Petherton Reserves at Combe St Nicholas FC’s Slades Cross Ground in Bank Holiday Monday sunshine.
After coming close to opening the scoring early on Rangers shrugged off a couple of first half injuries and Banks netted the winner just after the hour mark proding the ball past the on-rushing keeper. They were grateful to fine save from keeper Nathan Turnbull as Pethy, also runners-up back 2009-10, pressed for an equaliser but some solid defending saw the game out for Rangers, now unbeaten in 13 matches, who are on course for promotion from the Perry Street League Division Two and also have Tommy Tabberer Cup final against Thornconbe at Lyme Regis FC’s Davey Fort ground on Friday, May 18th to look forward to.
